Mayor's Corner

Thank you for visiting the mayor’s page at Nyack's redesigned website.

Think of everything that makes Nyack such a wonderful place to live, work, raise a family, and run a business -- our spectacular riverfront location, Memorial Park, a first-class school system, a classic Carnegie library, Victorian architecture, Rockland County’s most diverse demographics and housing stock, exhibits at Hopper House and our many fine art galleries, civic organizations such as the Nyack Center and the "Y," an exciting variety of the performing arts, world-class shops and restaurants…and all this (and more) within one square mile!

But Nyack's greatest asset isn't any of these; Nyack's greatest asset is its people, and it's our job as public officials to work for you and to listen to you, whether you live here, work here, or visit here.

I believe that village government is the most important level of government because it is closest to the people and has the most direct impact on our lives.  An important part of our job as public officials is to build relationships with you by listening to your concerns, communicating with you, working with you, and acting on your behalf to find solutions. This website is an important part of that effort.

Nyack's issues are as diverse and dynamic as its people. We hold our Village Board meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month. If you’d like to comment at a Village Board meeting on any village business, you may email our clerk, Mary E. White, at villageclerk@nyack-ny.gov (please provide her with as much detail as possible no later than the Friday preceding the Thursday meeting). And if you're a Nyack resident, we hope you’ll get involved in our civic affairs by volunteering for one of our many boards and commissions.

I often tell my students that democracy is not a spectator sport. Let’s work together to make the wonderful village we all love an even better place to live, work, visit, raise a family, and run a business.

Thank you again for visiting our website and for the incredible honor of being able to work for you as your mayor. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at mayor@nyack-ny.gov or to phone me at (845) 358-0229 (office), (845) 353-1935 (home) or (914) 954-5100 (cell).

Mayor Richard Kavesh
