The Batson - Avery Family

A FREE screening of the documentary "What Happened to Jackson Avenue? - A Story of Urban Renewal" will be held at the old Nyack High School (BOCES Building) on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 7pm.

"What Happened to Jackson Avenue? - A Story of Urban Renewal" details an urban renewal program that displaced 125 families (79% Black) from their homes in Nyack in the 1960's. These families lost their homes, families, community and generational wealth. The film includes personal and emotional stories from individuals who were present and saw the destruction of their community, some of who are now in their 80s and 90s and want their story to be heard.

This is a powerful documentary and the Village of Nyack would like to thank Bill Batson for the inspiration and the film makers, Hakima Alem and Rudi Gohl, for bringing this story to life.
