Nyack Mourns Chief Brian Knecht

Today, the Village of Nyack lost a true public servant and an even finer man. Brian Knecht, a native son, proud member of Orangetown Fire Company #1 and our Fire Chief, died after a valiant and hard fought battle with cancer. Brian served our community in all parts of his life; whether gently ushering families through hard decisions in his position as Funeral Director at Hannemann Funeral Home, as a devoted member of St. Anns Church or while serving bravely as both a firefighter and Fire Chief of the Nyack Fire Department.

Brian was a man who had much to be proud of, but what gave him the most joy and pride was his family. Brian is survived by his beloved wife Jennifer and his three wonderful children, Julia, Zachary and Maxwell. Our hearts are broken and in our sadness, we extend deep community love to his family. Nyack is so grateful for all the kindness that Brian gave to all of us and now we must return that kindness to the family he loved - Jen, Julia, Zach and Max. They need us now.
