Nyack Village Board enacts a Moratorium on Gas Powered Leaf Blowers

At the Village Board Meeting on Thursday, May 14, 2020; The Board of Trustees passed a Local Law to enact a moratorium on gas powered leaf blowers through the end of June 2020.

Based on comments received during the Board Meeting on May 14th, this law will be amended to reflect the changes and revisions accepted by the Village Board. The law will then be recorded with the State, which is a process that will take several days. Upon completion, the law will go into effect across the village.

A number of regional municipalities have enacted similar moratoriums based on a response to the Coronavirus pandemic’s impact on their community’s quality of life.

The moratorium will be in place until June 30, 2020. This time frame is intended to correspond with those working or studying remotely due to Coronavirus.

Please know that this Local Law is not a seasonal ban. It is a moratorium. The Village Board is requesting compliance with this action on behalf of our residents. Landscapers who work in the Village will be notified of the Local Law over the next few days. Compliance is our goal.

The Village Board will work with landscapers, residents and other parties to encourage compliance with the moratorium. We know that some will expect a high level of enforcement, but given the circumstances of this pandemic, our enforcement resources are limited.  It is our intention to educate residents and landscapers about the Local Law, and to work toward our goal of compliance.
