Welcome Spring!

I would like to extend my warmest wishes to those celebrating Passover, Easter and Ramadan in the coming weeks. As we reflect on the first few months of 2021, I am cautiously optimistic.

Several new vaccines for COVID-19 present the opportunity to protect people from the virus and represent hope that this year will continue to eradicate COVID-19.

Although many people may be hoping to meet friends and family in large gatherings over the next weeks, I want to reiterate that COVID-19 still poses an imminent danger to our health, as individuals and as a community.

Please continue to wear a mask, social distance and practice good hygiene. Together, we can restore the vibrant and engaging Nyack community through the safest means possible.

- Mayor Don Hammond

Nyack Mourns

The Nyack Community suffered an unimaginable loss on March 19, 2021 of Nyack Middle School student, Jajuan Matt Valdez. Jajuan was a shining star, the love and pride of his family, friends and classmates. Jajuan excelled in school and was on the High Honor Roll. He loved all subjects, especially art and had recently joined the modified football team.

We extend our deepest condolences to Jajuan's extended family. Donations for the family are being accepted at The Nyack Center, 58 Depew Ave., Nyack 845-358-2600.

Tragedy in the Spring Valley Community

The Village of Nyack stands in solidarity with our neighbors in Spring Valley following a horrific fire that destroyed the Evergreen Court Home for adults, claiming the life of one resident and Volunteer Firefighter, Jared Lloyd, Columbian Engine Co. 1 of the Spring Valley Fire Department. Jared was on the third floor of the building when he became trapped. By all accounts, Jared rescued numerous residents that night. Jared was a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others, and he leaves behind 2 young sons.
Please consider a donation to Jared's young family. This is the only officially sanctioned Columbian Engine Company fundraiser for the family GO FUND ME

Water Main Capital Project

The Village of Nyack Water Department is continuing its Water Main replacement project. Contractors are currently working on High Avenue, between North Broadway and Franklin Street. New water mains in the system are also being installed in West Nyack and Central Nyack.

Upon completion of the water main project, the Village will begin repaving the roads after an appropriate time of settlement. Signs will be posted and notices handed out to residents in the work zones. Thank you for your patience. Any questions regarding the project, please contact the Village Administrator, Jim Politi at 845-358-0548.

Memorial Park Update

The Village Board of Trustees has approved the reopening of the children's playground and basketball courts in Memorial Park on Saturday, March 27, 2021. The bathrooms will remain closed until further notice. We have installed signs setting capacity limits for the playground and courts, and reminding everyone to continue to be vigilant in wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

We will be monitoring compliance and safety protocols, and will be forced to reconsider closing these amenities if necessary to protect public safety.

Please enjoy Memorial Park responsibly and safely.
