Food Scrap Drop-Off now available at Nyack DPW!

The Village welcomes Nyack residents to place food scraps, using the required compostable bags available free at the Nyack Library and Village Hall, in the green food scrap receptacles located in front of the Nyack DPW on West Catherine St. In addition to using the correct bags, we ask for your cooperation in avoiding contamination with plastic bags, incorrect “compostable/biodegradable” bags, pet waste, and other non-food items.

Please see village website for rules, which are also listed on the sign at the drop-off site. We thank Rockland Green (County Solid Waste Management Authority) and the Town of Orangetown for their support setting up this drop-off site.

Specialized food scrap countertop and/or garbage bins are available for sale at Orangetown Town Hall (see Town website for details of kits for sale https://www.orangetown.com/orangetown-food-scrap-recycling-program/ plus how-to videos and FAQs). The Food Waste Recycling Site is one of many local efforts to increase the sustainability of our households and Village in the face of climate change. Diverting food scraps from trash reduces the greenhouse gas emissions (such as methane) from landfilled trash and reduces the volume of trash overall, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from trucking trash to distant landfills.
